Its not strictly games news, but then this isn’t strictly a games only blog. The iRex iLiad is shipping at the end of this month.

the iRex iLiad. iShipping this iMonth.

The iLiad is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long long LONG time. I have a lot of stuff I read off the PC, everything from blogs to books to manuals for things, and I’ve been looking for a decent eInk reader to handle all this.

The Sony Reader isn’t due out for another few months, and will surely be DRM-crippled, supporting only PDF and something called BBeB (BroadBand electronic Book) format, which doesn’t even exist yet.

The iLiad on the other hand, supports XHTML, TXT, PDF (DRMed and otherwise, altho I’ll never sully it with that DRM filth), has a USB B port which can pull data off memory sticks and things, SD card slot, touchscreen, WiIFi and more. Unfortunately, it also costs

649.00EUR

is it worth it? No. Altho I’ll probably buy one anyway.

I was expecting the price (plenty of net rumours floating around), but I wasn’t expecting it to be so ‘beta’. The site calmy provides a list of features for june/july, and a seperate set of extra features for the august/september model, including “Improved page turning speed”

update:

I’ve thought of a way i can link to gaming – when I make far cry maps I can put that bloody huge PDF Manual for the sandbox onto it and not have to be worried about the slowdown associated with alt-tabbing to such a large PDF in the background!
