Flock

There’s a new kid in town….

Flock is a free web browser that makes it easier than ever to share photos, stay up-to-date with news from your favorite sites, and search the Web. Take our tour to learn what’s different about Flock, then download the beta to get started – and please tell us what you think

I’m actually blogging this from within flock!

Honestly, it looks interesting, but I don’t know if I’ll be switching just yet. I’ve got a lot of firefox plugins on the go, and I doubt I could manage without them.

Here’s hoping flock compatible versions come out soon

gotta get back in time

You know, it occurs to me that if you were to go back in time to the year 1985 and tell someone that in ten years time Audio CDs would still be around, he’d probably say “uh – yeah, thats what I expected”

BUT if you were to then tell him that the alternative was to connect to a global network of computers and ‘download’ your albums direct to a walkman the size of a cigarette packet he’d say “yeah right – wierdo!”

and you’d say ‘No its true! I swear! Also, everyone has a phone the same size in their pocket, and you can play music on that too! Not to mention that arcade games are a thing of the past, because everyone has in their home a computer capable of rendering incredible 3d graphics almost indistiguishable from real-life.’

And he’d say ‘look, just get away from me. I don’t care about your wacky theories!’

and you’d get really angry that he didn’t believe you, and you’d club him over the head with an old betamax deck, and accidentally kill him, and then realise he was your grandfather, and as your essence started to disappear, you’d say to yourself
‘hang on a tic… he was a bit young to be my grandfather – and wouldn’t I recognise him if he was? I mean, its only ten years ago’

And then you’d wake up in bed and it would have all been a dream.

Or would it?

Call me.

There are so many things happening in the world that I don’t like.

Heres one of the latest. I don’t like this.

What the hell is wrong with people? Disposable fuckin DVDs? Isn’t there enough trash in the world already?

DVD format wars

Been reading about the reports of the upcoming

DVD Format Wars. The Battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD has begun. I guess real wars aren’t as fun as consumer wars anymore, now with daily US casualty rates this high

But I digress. I predict the winner of this non-lethal (for the most part) format war, will be Blu-Ray. Not because of its triple storage, PS3 usage or sony/Dell/philips/20th century fox backing, although I’m sure they’ll all help. I think it’ll win because of the name. who’s going to buy a HD-DVD Player over a BluRay box? HD-DVD just takes too long to say. By the time you’re half way through you’ll probably have changed your mind.

“gimme a HD-DV.. Ah what the hell, BluRay me.”

Gents who favour electronic devices with elongated labels might well venture for the High Density/Definition – Digital Versatile Disc Playing Device Contraption.

Regular people will buy one o’ them bluray yokes. And the techies will too, since they’re better.

Storage is everything, so the PC market will hop all over a storage medium like BluRay, since it’ll be bigger and out sooner. and with no sales of HD-DVD on PC, it’ll phase out completely.

And yet, although so many people agree on this, Universal, WB and Paramount are backing it. Go figure.

After a failed marketing drive and a couple of chumps buying their steven segal movies on HD-DVD all over again, someone will bring out a player that says “Supports BluRay, HD-DVD, DVD, CD, Mp3, WMA and DivX!” And that’ll be the end. Thus perished HD-DVD.

Blu Ray forever.

But wait… whats that on the horizon… some kind of… Green Ray? Nah. It’ll never catch on. besides, everyones looking forward to this new fangled SHDDF-SVCDDVDVVDPRDVDDV-SDVDV-STD. Dreamworks are backing it!
